Drive Chain

Inspecting the Drive Chain Slack

Check the drive chain slack at several points along the chain. If the slack is not constant at all points, some links may be kinked and binding.

Have the chain inspected by your dealer.

  • Shift the transmission to Neutral. Stop the engine.
  • Place your vehicle on its centre stand on a firm, level surface.
  • Check the slack in the lower half of the drive chain midway between the sprockets.
  • While depressing the drive chain, measure the distance from the bottom of the swingarm to the drive chain.
  • Drive chain slack:

    40 - 45 mm (1.6 - 1.8 in)
